Am I ready to change ?

Understanding stages of change is critical to your success in making lasting changes in your life.

There are 6 stages of change, which we can move backward and forwards through

  1. Pre-contemplation. I CAN'T. This stage is filled with words such as I won't or I can't or they won't let me. It is when we feel stuck or unempowered to change.

  2. Contemplation. I MAY. This stage can be when you start feeling and thinking that there is a better way. It contains thoughts of what life may be like if you change. At this stage, I can work with you to get you to the next stage.

  3. Preparation. I WILL!. At this stage, we can prepare who are your adversaries, and your supporters. This is where you look at all the other times that you tried, and failed, and what you learned. The failures are often a wonderful basis for lasting change. You know what didn't work last time. This is the stage where together we can plan for lasting change. We look at if you make this change, what else could change and why does that concern you? We plan and have regular check-ins to see what worked, and what needs to work, and we name the obstacles and create plans to overcome them.

  4. Action. I AM! This is where you realise that change is just a series of small changes. It is about the planned substitution of actions, it is about changing the automatic responses and creating new pathways. This stage requires support, love, and gentleness. You may feel unstable because your automatic responses have changed and your triggers that have been previously masked are now arising for healing.

  5. Maintenance. I STILL AM. This is the amazing stage where you mainly respond with your new strategies. This is one of the hardest stages and usually occurs within 21 days and 90 days of action. The more consistently that you use your new strategies the more they change the neuroplasticity of your brain as the new action. Research shows this is about 5000 repetitions, so it takes a while to become a habit.

  6. Relapse. I WAS. This is when the old patterns arise more often than the new ones. This is usually around the 90-day mark when the excitement of change has worn off, and life throws in a couple of hurdles that challenge your ability to cope., This is a stage where I can help you get back on track, and use your failure to create better strategies. We also look at your changes and wether they fit your values. Do they need re evaluating to fit into your life ?

If you are contemplating change for yourself or your team. Here are a couple of reasons why I can assist.

In the 90s I was a Senior Change Manager. I managed major and sustained Change in several organizations. The skills learned in Corporate are as valuable in creating change in an individual, as it is in creating change in teams of hundreds.

As a Kinesiologist, Sports Therapist, and Wellness Coach I use the physical body to change the way you move and present to the world, counseling to change the way you think and we plan to create a model for lasting change. We also amend the plan as we progress, as we create new and improved pathways.

Understanding neuroplasticity and the need to act in a new way 5000 times before change sets in are critical to our success. I use Flower Essences, acupressure, Bowen, body work, massage and calming strategies to reduce the fear of change, to enable success. I learned many beautiful change protocols in my studies in Facilitating Change and Embracing Life. Wellness coaching provides a solid and proven model for lasting change and an honest assessment of whether the change is in alignment with your values and views of yourself and who you ideally wish to be.
